The Detroit Lions became the second NFC North team to move up in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft – much to the pleasure of the hometown fans in attendance in Detroit. They moved up from 29th overall to 24th overall in a swap with the Dallas Cowboys and selected cornerback Terrion Arnold from Alabama.
Along with the 29th overall pick, the Lions sent their 3rd-round pick (73rd overall) to Dallas in exchange for the 24th overall pick and a 7th-round pick in 2025.
Moving up for Arnold made a lot of sense for Detroit. The Alabama standout was seen as the top cornerback on the board by some, and when corners started to fall a bit the Lions saw their opportunity to pounce and fill a hole at a position of need. The Lions defense struggled mightily in the NFC Championship against the 49ers, and Arnold is clearly being brought in to try and make sure that doesn’t happen again.
