Unless you were off the grid last night, then you already know that we are officially in our Caleb Williams era.
Even if you were off the grid last night, anyone with even the smallest amount of sense knew this pick was coming the moment the Chicago Bears traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s just that it wasn’t made officially official until Thursday when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the magic words. What a moment that was for Caleb Williams, the Bears, and their fans.
Ryan Poles landed on the franchise quarterback he has likely been dreaming about drafting since the moment he became the Bears general manager in January 2022. And this is what it looked and sounded like when he made the call to Caleb Williams to usher in a new era of Chicago Bears football:
There is so much I love about that 1 minute, 48 second clip:
Chills. Literal chills. I love these moments. Obviously, the Bears ones are going to get re-shared here. And I am on the hunt for any and all new Caleb Williams content to share. But I always find myself down a rabbit hole of these for players around the league on NFL Draft weekend. Watching someone realize their dream is such a unique experience. It is one of the coolest thing we’ll see all year. I love the pick. And I love the behind-the-scenes look we get from above.

With that being said, I’m still having a hearty laugh thinking about the NFL making the Bears wait five minutes before they could call the pick in last night. That is HILARIOUS. Long-time NFL Draft watchers have long suspected that the league is pulling some strings behind the scenes. And don’t get me wrong. I get it. The league has bills to pay and advertisers to satisfy. Rich folks don’t get rich by burning money or bridges. So I get why they requested the Bears take some extra time so the league could push out some extra content. Game recognize game.
