QB1 is already working to bring his teammates together.
In an interview with 670 The Score’s Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel, Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet said that quarterback Caleb Williams had already begun ironing out a plan to get his pass catchers together for offseason throwing sessions:
Danny Parkins: Has Caleb organized any offseason throwing sessions yet?
Cole Kmet: Yeah, we’ve got some stuff in the works here. Yeah, yeah. I have to be careful about location and timing here because we don’t need a whole crowd showing up when we do it. But yeah, we’re in the works of organizing all that.
We love to see QB1 taking charge in the early going.

Caleb Williams isn’t breaking new ground here
Caleb Williams, the No. 1 pick in last April’s NFL Draft, has already had throwing sessions with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze. So to hear that he is already cooking up throwing sessions that will include tight end Cole Kmet isn’t earth-shattering news. Quarterbacks around the league do this stuff every year. This is stuff Justin Fields was doing last year in preparation of the 2023 NFL season. So it’s not as if this is new to us. However, that does not mean that it isn’t worth re-sharing and discussing.
I appreciate Caleb Williams making the effort as a rookie to get his teammates together for throwing sessions. Plus, it makes it that much cooler when it is a rookie showing that kind of initiative. Again, I realize this is a generally common practice for quarterbacks around the league. However, I don’t want to take it for granted when someone does the obvious and good thing because not everyone does.
For what it’s worth, last summer’s throwing session organized by Justin Fields included a who’s who of names you might remember playing for the Bears at some point. Fellow quarterbacks PJ Walker and Nathan Peterman were there at the throwing session. So were DJ Moore and Cole Kmet. Chase Claypool, Nsimba Webster, Daurice Fountain, Equanimeous St. Brown, and Tyler Scott were also in attendance. It was quite the cast of characters following Fields to South Beach. Now, I am wondering about which players will join Caleb Williams for spring and summer throwing sessions.
I hate to assume, but it feels like a given that Kmet, Moore, Allen, and Odunze will be involved in a Caleb Williams throwing party. But I wonder if players like Dante Pettis, Velus Jones Jr., Collin Johnson, and other pass-catchers will be extended an invite. Building up a rapport with QB1 seems like a good way to make a name for yourself as a young receiver or someone trying to hang on to a roster spot.
As a reminder, these are NOT official team activities. In fact, there are limitations to how much players can do at team practice facilities between now and the start of training camp. But that doesn’t stop players from getting together and organizing practices on their own. We saw Tom Brady do it with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he arrived to Florida after leaving the New England Patriots. Here’s to the first of many successful throwing sessions. Please come out of them happy and (most importantly) healthy.
