The first game of the Frozen Four was spectacular! It took 11:09 into overtime for the game to be decided, and it was Denver’s Tristan Broz with the shot that ended it.
Blackhawks prospect Aidan Thompson had a terrific game for Denver. He had some of their best scoring chances in regulation and frequently found himself on the ice against Macklin Celebrini’s line. Thompson was officially credited with two shots on net. He also took 20 of Denver’s 67 faceoffs, which tied for the team high. He won only six, but — again — spent of lot of the night against Celebrini.
The sad reality is that there was a loser in the game, and that was Boston University. Which means Blackhawks prospect Ryan Greene‘s sophomore season is over. He also played a solid game and was asked to do some heavy lifting defensively for BU, including spending the final minute of regulation killing a Denver power play. Greene was also credited with two shots on net and won 6 of 13 faceoffs with one blocked shot.
Macklin Celebrini won 15 of 22 faceoffs and put seven shots on net in the loss. We’ll see if this was his final collegiate game. He’ll undoubtedly be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft this summer.
