Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson was asked before the regular season finale if forward Lukas Reichel would play for Germany at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, or if he was headed to Rockford to join the IceHogs for their playoffs.
Richardson said Reichel would be in Rockford for the AHL postseason, not joining his countrymen in Czechia. UPDATE: Reichel is flying home with the team and catching an Uber straight to Rockford. He was assigned to the IceHogs on Friday morning.
Reichel appeared in nine games with the IceHogs this season during a brief demotion, producing one goal and six assists. He has been able to score only four goals with just 11 assists in 61 games in the NHL this season, which has been a disappointment for all involved parties. He has been better since being recalled after his time with Rockford, however.
Reichel will be a restricted free agent this summer. The IceHogs’ playoffs will begin either Friday or Saturday next week.
