Hossa Documentary Coming, IceHogs’ Playoffs Begin, Hayes Reports, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

Back in mid-August, Marian Hossa hosted an incredible collection of friends, countrymen and former teammates for a farewell game in his hometown of Trenčín in Slovakia. Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith and Dustin Byfuglien were among the notable former Blackhawks to make an appearance. Now, it appears we’re going to get an inside look into the events surrounding the game in a documentary. It was teased with this trailer on Instagram on Friday.

  • From the past to the future of the Blackhawks, Gavin Hayes joined the IceHogs on Friday. Hayes, who will turn 20 on May 14, finished his junior career with 16 points in 11 postseason games for the Soo Greyhounds. I’m excited to see how his game translates to the pro ranks next year. He scored 78 goals in 121 games over the past two seasons for Flint and Soo in the OHL.
  • The IceHogs open their first-round playoff series against Grand Rapids in Rockford tonight!
  • We found out on Friday that the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will take place on May 7. With that in mind, I shared your offseason road map of key dates and deadlines.
  • Matt Rempe, the Rangers’ guy who skates around hitting people and fighting people and occasionally plays hockey, lowered the boom on former Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk last night. TvR didn’t return to the game, and the Rangers took a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. This was a clean hit and it sucks that TvR got hurt, but it continues to be fascinating that Rempe gets the big hits seemingly every night. They talked about it on the TNT postgame and Wayne Gretzky mentioned it does seem like the rest of the Rangers’ roster plays more confidently and physically with Rempe in the lineup. We’ll see if he can continue hitting people like this without retribution as the playoffs progress.
  • Finally, the Chicago Bears’ 2024 draft class added one player last night. And they’ll make one more pick today (as it stands when I’m writing this). I love the pick last night because it’s a Hinsdale Central grad. Go Red!
