NHL Mock Draft Roundup: A Full 7 Rounds? Let’s Go!

2024 NHL Draft
2024 NHL Draft

The Stanley Cup Final didn’t end last night, but we’re now just nine (9) days away from the start of the 2024 NHL Draft — which means mock draft season is heating up. And, as always, I’m out here scouring the interwebs looking for the best, reputable mocks for us to discuss as Blackhawks fans.

  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 1
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 2
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 3
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 4
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 5
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 6
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 7
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 8
  • On Wednesday morning we got our first, full 7-round mock draft! Two rounds is fairly aggressive, three is a lot. Seven?!? Let’s go!

    The Athletic – Corey Pronman

With the Blackhawks owning six picks over the first three rounds of the 2024 NHL Draft, this mock draft has plenty for us to consider. Pronman has been pretty consistent with what he’s done for the Blackhawks at No. 2, but from there it’s a wild card. And we haven’t considered anything beyond two rounds previously. So this is great!

Note: Pronman did not offer comments on individual selections after the first round, so I’ll offer my thoughts on the picks by round.

    Mock Draft — First Round

    2. Artyom Levshunov, RHD

Pronman’s Comments: “The winds certainly feel like they’re blowing in the direction of Levshunov being the pick here. Teams feel like the Blackhawks are high on Ivan Demidov and Cayden Lindstrom as well, and I don’t think they’ve truly decided who they are taking, but the odds favor the big, dynamic defenseman from Michigan State.

    18. Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, RW

Pronman’s Comments: “Chicago jumps at Brandsegg-Nygard getting to 18, adding skill and scoring but also some size and bite to their prospect pool. It feels like they will probably take a forward here if Levshunov goes at No. 2.

  • My Thoughts: I’ve had this guy on the Blackhawks’ radar in mock drafts consistently and he was my pick at 18 in my most recent mock. This would be a superb selection.
  • Mock Draft — Second Round

    34. Dominik Badinka, RHD

    6-3, 185
    DOB: Nov. 27, 2005
    Shoots: Right
    2023-24 Team: Malmö (Sweden)

    50. Maxim Massé, RW

    6-2, 190
    DOB: April 7, 2006
    Shoots: Right
    2023-24 Team: Chicoutimi (QMJHL)

  • My Thoughts: It’s interesting that Pronman has the Blackhawks selecting a RHD with two of their first three picks. It’s a need, and the value is there with both selections. I like the size of Badinka and his game would compliment the LHD in the Blackhawks’ pipeline well. Massé has good size and would be very good value at No. 50 as well.
  • Mock Draft — Third Round

    67. Matvei Shuravin, LHD

    6-2, 172
    DOB: March 22, 2006
    Shoots: Left
    2023-24 Team: Krasnaya (MHL)

    72. Hagen Burrows, RW

    6-2, 177
    DOB: Oct. 13, 2005
    Shoots: Right
2023-24 Teams: Sioux City Musketeers (USHL), Minnetonka High School

  • My Thoughts: Shuravin is signed in Russia thru the 2025-26 season, which is likely why he’s still available after the second round in this mock draft. Burrows is headed to the University of Denver this fall after playing games in high school and the USHL as a senior. I do love forwards with size going to elite NCAA programs.
  • The Blackhawks do not have a pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft.
  • Mock Draft — Fifth Round

    138. Kieron Walton, C/LW

    6-5, 203
    DOB: April 22, 2006
    Shoots: Left
    2023-24 Team: Sudbury (OHL)

  • My Thoughts: If you’re wanting the Blackhawks to draft size, Walton has plenty. He scored 19 goals in the OHL in his pre-draft season. For reference, that’s the same number Gavin Hayes produced in the same league two years ago before the Blackhawks selected him in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft — and he scored 41 and 37 in the last two years. Add the size of the player and I like this pick a lot.
  • Mock Draft — Sixth Round

    163. Niilopekka Muhonen, LHD

    6-4, 185
    DOB: Feb. 28, 2006
    Shoots: Left
    2023-24 Team: KalPa (Finland)

  • My Thoughts: This seems like incredible value for the Blackhawks. Most rankings have Muhonen in a second to third-round area and I’ve personally mocked him in the second round previously. He has big size and is a terrific skater, so it makes sense that the Blackhawks would be interested. If the Hawks could land him this late, that would be fantastic.
  • The Blackhawks do not have a pick in the seventh round of the 2024 NHL Draft.
  • Overall Mock Draft Thoughts

Pronman has the Blackhawks selecting two right-handed defensemen (in their first three picks), two left-handed defensemen and four forwards. That’s a good mix for a team that’s in a best-available mindset, and I like a lot of the players he has coming to Chicago in this mock draft.
