NHL Mock Draft Roundup: Two More Strong Blackhawks’ Drafts to Consider

We’re within one calendar week of the start of the 2024 NHL Draft, so let’s take another quick look around the interwebs for some reputable mock draft thoughts for the Chicago Blackhawks.

In this edition, our tenth mock draft roundup, we have a couple folks whose analysis I value a great deal. They agree with the second overall pick, but go different routes later in the first round. And one of them did us a solid and went thru the second round as well.

  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 1
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 2
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 3
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 4
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 5
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 6
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 7
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 8
  • Mock Draft Roundup No. 9
  • Let’s see who Chris Peters and Craig Button have coming to Chicago in their latest mock drafts!

FloHockey — Chris Peters (June 20)

Peters, someone whose opinion I value a great deal, dropped a full two-round mock draft. Which is awesome because it gives us four Blackhawks’ selections to discuss.

    2. Artyom Levshunov, RHD

Peters’ Comments: “A No. 1 defenseman is a difficult position to fill and Levshunov probably possesses the clearest No. 1 upside of any of the defensemen available in this stellar blue line class. Levshunov has true two-way ability with high-end offense.”

    18. Jett Luchanko, C

Peters’ Comments: “Luchanko profiles similarly to recent draft picks like Frank Nazar and Oliver Moore. He is a sub 6-foot center who excels on both sides of the puck, plays with tremendous pace and has the skill to score. There’s a chance Luchanko is gone before Chicago gets to pick, but I think the cluster that includes both Eiserman and Hage gives some insight into the options Chicago should have at 18.”

  • My First-Round Thoughts: I’m totally cool with Luchanko as a center option if the Blackhawks go defense at No. 2 overall. He was a point-per-game player for Canada at the U18s and is a solid prospect who has been ranked in this range consistently since March.
  • 34. Nikita Artamonov, LW

    50. Harrison Brunicke, RHD

  • My Second-Round Thoughts: Artamonov is slightly older (turns 19 in November) and is signed in the KHL for two more years. With that being said, he appeared in 54 games in the KHL this past season. He isn’t big (5-11, 187). I would prefer a couple names that Peters passed on here (Maxim Masse, Julius Miettinen, John Mustard, Matvei Gridin and Ryder Ritchie). I’ve had Brunicke in the Blackhawks’ range as a potential RHD target in the middle of the second round for a while and think he could be a good fit with his size (6-3, 187).
  • TSN — Craig Button (June 17)

Button didn’t write about each individual selection, but did offer a comment about his selection for the Blackhawks at No. 2 overall in his mock draft.

    2. Artyom Levshunov, RHD

“He is capable of lowering coaches’ heart rates,” said Button. “When he is on the ice he is able to keep things under control. He’s a player who seemingly understands every situation in the game, understands how to take advantage of them, and contribute.”

    18. Michael Brandsegg-Nygård, RW

  • My Thoughts: As I wrote in my most recent mock draft — in which I had the Blackhawks taking Ivan Demidov second and Brandsegg-Nygård at 18 — I’m totally okay with Chicago selecting Levshunov or Demidov with their first pick. Button knows his stuff, and he agrees with Peters at that slot.
