A familiar last name will be in the Big Ten next season.
Scottie Pippen’s kid, Justin, has committed to the University of Michigan, according to Krysten Peek of Yahoo Sports. The youngest son of the Chicago Bulls legend, Pippen started to climb the 2024 class ranks after his most recent season with Sierra Canyon High School. He is currently listed on 247 Sports as the 62nd-best player in the nation and the 8th-best player in California.
Peek shares that Pippen chose Michigan over offers from Cal, Flordia, Texas A&M, and Stanford.
Justin will join the Wolverines shortly after their hiring of new head coach Dusty May. The team chose to fire long-time NBA vet Juwan Howard after their recent 8-24 season, which was the team’s worst since 1981-82. May comes to the program after rising to fame with the FAU Owls, who made a shocking run to the Final Four two NCAA Tournaments ago before earning a No. 8 seed in their year’s tournament.
Scottie Pippen’s other son, Scotty Pippen Jr., has paved quite the path for his brother. He played three seasons at Vanderbilt before opting to join the NBA Draft. While he went undrafted in 2022, he has spent time with both the Lakers and Grizzlies. His 21 games with Memphis to end this season showed that he might deserve a full-time roster spot moving forward. The combo guard averaged 12.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds on 41.7 percent shooting from downtown.
Before Justin tries to follow in those footsteps, however, he’ll have to help Michigan jump back up the Big Ten ranks. Regardless, I’m sure Scottie Pippen is one proud father!
