Another Big Year for Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic has now claimed the MVP title in three of the past four seasons. Joel Embiid broke up his run by claiming the award last season, but Jokic still finished second in the voting.
While it sure felt like both SGA and Doncic were deserving of the acknowledgment, it’s hard to deny that The Joker remains the most impactful player in the NBA. He averaged 26.4 points, 9.0 assists, and 12.4 rebounds this season on a 58.3 percent shooting clip. Jokic also appeared in his most games since the 2018-19 season (79).
The big man finished with a +7.4 offensive estimated plus-minus, per Dunks & Threes, which finished behind only Doncic on the season. The Nuggets were also a +18.9 with Jokic on the floor offensively, which was by far the best mark in the regular season, per Cleaning the Glass.
Look, I know there is a crowd out there who is probably sick of hearing about the Jokic hype, especially with the Nuggets down 0-2 to the Timberwolves in Round 2. But I really only have respect for what he’s been able to accomplish. We’ve never seen a center who has his elite combination of scoring and playmaking. I’m still in awe every time I see him post a triple-double, and it’s hard to say he doesn’t belong alongside the list of names we see above.
Congrats to The Joker.
Next up … Coby White!
