LA Sparks Rookie Cameron Brink Suffers Torn ACL

Well, this is a total bummer!

The Los Angeles Sparks announced today that rookie forward and second-overall pick Cameron Brink has suffered a torn ACL. Brink went down with the injury in Tuesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. She was driving to her left and fell awkwardly as she drove to the paint without much contact. Brink’s knee bent an awkward way, and the worst was assumed and confirmed on Wednesday.

Cameron Brink Suffers Torn ACL

It’s a brutal break for the 22-year-old rookie. Brink was off to an up-and-down start to her first WNBA campaign, averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. However, she was coming off one of her best games as a professional entering Tuesday’s contest against the Sun. In a loss to Atlanta on Sunday, June 16th, Brink dropped 16 points and grabbed 7 boards while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from downtown.

Similar to rookies in just about every sport, making the jump to the pros can be a bit of a roller coaster at times. We’ve seen some high highs and low lows for Brink, but as with any first-round picks, she’s shown some signs of ‘special’ this season. Unfortunately, she’ll now have the rest of that rookie campaign cut short and will have to lose some valuable developmental time. However, she should have the chance to come back better and stronger by the beginning of next season.

While no timetable for her return has been announced for Brink’s return, it’s expected that she will miss the rest of this season. Get well soon, Cameron!
