We’ve got a shorter Cubs Farm Report today, with half of the affiliates being rained out. The Iowa Cubs got their game in against the St. Paul Saints but lost to the Twins’ affiliate. Myrtle Beach scored nine runs with some help from an extraordinary performance from Reginald Preciado, but that wasn’t enough, as Columbia scored 18 runs.

Triple-A Iowa Cubs (7-5)
The Iowa Cubs started strong last night with David Peralta‘s RBI single, taking a 1-0 lead. Despite Ali Sanchez‘s solo homer in the seventh, the Cubs fell short, allowing two more runs. Chris Clarke pitched 3.2 scoreless innings for Iowa, while Escobar suffered his first loss of the season. St. Paul’s Caleb Thielbar earned the win.

Double-A Tennessee Smokies (3-1)
The Smokies’ scheduled contest with the Chatanooga Lookouts on Thursday was postponed due to rain.
High-A South Bend Cubs (1-4)
The South Bend Cubs’ scheduled Thursday contest with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers was postponed due to rain. It will be made up today as part of a doubleheader.
Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2-4)
Reginald Preciado had a heck of a game for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans last night, picking up four hits in five trips to the dish, three runs, a walk, and two runs driven in. Preciado got the Pelicans on the board in the first inning with an RBI single that plated Carter Trice. Preciado then drove in Alexis Hernandez on an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to give the Pelicans a 4-3 lead at the time.
Unfortunately, Preciado’s big night wasn’t enough for Myrtle Beach, as the Columbia Fireflies exploded for 18 runs in an 18-9 win over the Pelicans. Myrtle Beach starter Ty Johnson was tagged for three runs on three hits in two and two-thirds, and Erian Rodriguez and Jack Patterson were each charged with four earned runs in relief of Johnson.
