CUBS LINEUP — Okay, Cubs. I’m formally requesting you stop losing games. Please and thank you. Shota Imanaga is on the bump tonight, and here’s look at the Cubs lineup against Emerson Hancock and the Seattle Mariners.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Ian Happ, LF
- Seiya Suzuki, RF
- Cody Bellinger, CF
- Chris Morel, 3B
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Michael Busch, 1B
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Mike Tauchman, DH
- Miguel Amaya, C
Mike Tauchman’s walk rate is still literally double his strikeout rate. And since Christopher Morel has had some nice plays at third base, Tauchman has been in the Cubs lineup with greater frequency lately.
Sometimes, he takes over one of the outfield spots for Happ, Suzuki, or Bellinger. But tonight, he’ll just DH.
Seattle Mariners Lineup:
- J.P. Crawford, SS
- Julio Rodriguez, CF
- Ty France, 1B
- Mitch Haniger, RF
- Jorge Polanco, 2B
- Mitch Garver, DH
- Dylan Moore, LF
- Luis Urias, 3B
- Seby Zavala, C
Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Shota Imanaga, LHP
We were robbed of what was looking like an absolute GEM of a game from Shota Imanaga against the Los Angeles Dodgers his last time out, when rain forced a delay after he had gone 4.0 scoreless innings with just two hits, no walks and three strikeouts. All together this season, Imanaga has gone 10 scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts and he still hasn’t walked a batter. It can’t keep going on this good, but so far, he’s been absolute nails. Hopefully, the Cubs lineup provides a little run support. But right now, this is the Cubs best starting pitcher. So maybe he’ll carry them.
Seattle Mariners: Emerson Hancock, RHP
Emerson Hancock is only five starts into his big league career, and so far he hasn’t quite lived up to his top-6 overall pick back in 2020 (and top-100 rankings in 2021). Indeed, his first two starts this season have gone particularly poorly, with the Brewers really giving it to him over 3.1 innings of work.
vsMIL: 3.1 IP, 11H, 8ER, 1BB, 6K (2 HRs)
vsCLE: 5.1 IP, 4H, 3ER, 1BB, 1K (2 HRs)
And last season, Hancock allowed six earned runs on 13 hits and 3 walks over three starts and 12.0 IP (4.50 ERA). More of all that would be just swell.
