Yesterday’s game ended in dramatic fashion, with Adbert Alzolay – after review – picking off Julio Rodriguez to preserve a one-run win for the Cubs.
It instantly got folks wondering when the last time was that the Cubs won a game on a walk-off pick-off. Marquee’s Andy Martinez came with the info and video, flashing us back to that wonderful 2003 season and Sweaty Joe Borowski:
That’s fun right there, especially on Sunday Night Baseball against the Yankees. Ah, but did you notice the qualifying word there in Martinez’s tweet? The word “pitcher” was added because, technically, the last time the Cubs won a game on a walk-off pick-off was actually via the catcher.
