Per multiple reports, Luke Little will be the 27th man for today’s double-header against the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field.
Luke Little Is Back (For Today)
Little, you’ll recall, made the team out of spring training and had some nice outings to start the year before starting to struggle with his command a bit here lately. And after a particularly rough outing (with multiple wild pitches) in relief of Kyle Hendricks on Tuesday, Little was sent out alongside Daniel Palencia for Hayden Wesneski and Colten Brewer.
But for at least today, he’s back with the club. Little brings a big presence from the left side with a ton of velocity, and should be very well-rested having not pitched since Tuesday. And for what it’s worth, the Marlins (48 wRC+) are literally the worst team in baseball against left-handed pitching. So for all sorts of reasons, this made sense.
With that said, Little will have to step back off the roster after today’s game. Unless a different Cubs pitcher gets hurt, he can’t return to the Chicago Cubs for ten days from when he was optioned. So you can very much expect to see him at some point today, assuming Javier Assad and Shota Imanaga don’t both throw complete game shutouts, of course.
