Cubs Farm Report

Name a player hotter than Kevin Alcántara right now. Go ahead, I’ll wait. (He’s already raking again today. Literally as I type this.)

More on Alcántara’s big day and the Smokies home run parade last night in today’s Cubs Farm Report.

Cubs Farm Report | April 24, 2024

Triple-A Iowa Cubs (13-8)

Last night’s game between the Iowa Cubs and Buffalo Bison at Sahlen Field was postponed due to rain and the impending forecast in Buffalo. The two teams will make up last night’s game with a doubleheader on Thursday, with the first of two seven-inning contests beginning at 3:35 PM CT.

Double-A Tennessee Smokies (9-6)

Double-A Tennessee dominated Rocket City in a 10-4 victory, fueled by an impressive seven home runs. Kevin Alcántara and James Triantos, along with Pablo Aliendo, shone with two-homer performances at Toyota Field. Despite a rough start to the season, Alcántara—ranked fifth in the club’s prospects—has turned things around dramatically, going 13-for-26 with four homers in the last six games after an initial 0-for-26 slump. Triantos hit two homers and is boasting a .296/.350/.519 batting line for the season.

Notable Performances

Kevin Alcántara | 3-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R
James Triantos | 3-4, 2 HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 3 R
Pablo Aliendo | 2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R

FINAL: Smokies 10, Rocket City Trash Pandas 4 | Box Score

High-A South Bend Cubs (4-12)

The South Bend Cubs looked set for a win against the Quad Cities River Bandits, but QC rallied with five runs in the 9th to snatch an 8-5 victory, keeping their lead in the Midwest League West Division. Yohendrick Pinango’s bat, including a triple and a two-run homer, powered South Bend’s offense. Despite solid pitching from Nick Hull and Koen Moreno, the Cubs couldn’t hold on as Quad Cities surged late for the win.

Notable Performances

Yohendrick Pinango | 3-4, HR, 3B, 3 RBI
Ed Howard | 3-4, 2B, R
Pedro Ramirez | 2-4, BB

FINAL: Cubs 5, Quad Cities River Bandits 8 | Box Score

Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans (5-10)

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans pulled off a remarkable comeback, rallying from a 6-0 deficit after the third inning to beat the Lynchburg Hillcats 8-6 in 10 innings on Tuesday night. Jacob Wetzel’s clutch triple in the 10th sealed the deal, capping off a big night for him. Cristian Hernandez’s two-run homer and Frank Hernandez’s RBI double fueled the Pelicans’ comeback, marking their biggest turnaround of the season. Kenyi Perez notched his first win with four strikeouts in relief, while Francis Reynoso secured the save with a clean 10th inning.

Notable Performances

Jacob Wetzel | 2-5, 3B, 2 RBI, R
