Triple-A Iowa Cubs
The Columbus Clippers defeated the Iowa Cubs 6-5 in a ten-inning contest. Kyle Hendricks started as part of his rehab program and had a solid performance, allowing only one run in four and one-third innings with six strikeouts. Matt Mervis had two hits and drove in three runs, while Luis Vazquez scored twice and had an RBI double. Owen Caissie had an RBI single in the tenth inning, but they couldn’t score again to overcome the deficit.

Double-A Tennessee Smokies
The Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Tennessee Smokies 3-2 in ten innings. Brandon Birdsell allowed one run on four hits in five and two third innings, striking out six and walking none. Michael Arias blew a save by giving up a solo home run in the eighth inning, allowing one run on two hits over one inning. He struck out one and walked no one. Eduarnial Nunez pitched a scoreless top of the ninth but got the loss when he threw a wild pitch to the first batter, who then scored from second base on a throwing error by catcher Pablo Aliendo. The Smokies managed only four hits, and two of them were solo home runs by Ezequiel Pagan. Pagan was 2-for-3 and hit his first home run in the third inning and the second in the seventh. He has now hit three home runs, all of which came over the last week.

High-A South Bend Cubs
The Cedar Rapids Kernels beat the South Bend Cubs 16-6. Sam Armstrong was charged with the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits during the first three and a third innings. Despite hitting two batters, Armstrong managed to strike out four and didn’t walk anyone. Yohendrick Pinango hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, marking his fourth home run this season. Pinango had a double, a walk, and the home run, going 2-for-4 and scoring twice. Felix Stevens scored a run and had two hits, including a walk. Brett Bateman had three RBI and two hits.

Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Augusta Green Jackets beat Myrtle Beach 5-2. There were no hits for either team until Miguel Olivo‘s sixth-inning single. The Green Jackets got their first hit in the seventh, but a triple play ended their chances. Ty Johnson struck out nine for the Pelicans. Vince Reilly retired six batters, and Garrett Brown took the loss. The Pelicans had four hits and scored twice in the ninth.
