Ian Happ has been on a pretty incredible tear here lately. He came into today with multi-hit games in four straight, and he matched that by the fourth inning with a double and a homer.
The double was laced into the center field ivy, just narrowly missing a homer. But the homer was a NOOOOOOO DOUBTER: 442 feet to dead center, off the batter’s eye.
After his ninth homer of the season, Ian Happ’s overall slash is now up to .240/.347/.423 (122 wRC+). That’s better than his mark in each of the last two seasons, and solidly above his career level (115 wRC+).
But the Cubs scoring didn’t end there. The very next batter, Dansby Swanson, homered on the fourth pitch of his at-bat for back-to-back jacks!
Swanson’s wasn’t hit nearly as far (375 feet), but it all counts the same. That was his second homer in as many days.
You know that feels good after the Cubs squandered a bases loaded, no out opportunity an inning prior.
