CUBS PROSPECTS — Moises Ballesteros and Frankie Scalzo Jr. had nice nights in their Triple-A debuts, but it wasn’t enough as Iowa dropped the series opener to Indianapolis.

Triple-A Iowa Cubs Prospects

The Iowa Cubs lost to Indianapolis 4-2. Starter Thomas Pannone took the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits over four innings. Frankie Scalzo Jr. made his Triple-A debut, not allowing a run on one hit over one and one-third innings of work. Shortstop Hayden Cantrelle hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning, and Moises Ballesteros was 2-for-4 with a double in his first Triple-A game.

Double-A Tennessee Smokies Prospects

The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Mississippi Braves 6-0. Connor Noland pitched for seven innings, surrendering only three hits and receiving the win. Matt Shaw hit a solo home run and had two RBIs, while Haydn McGeary hit a home run and stole a base, earning two RBIs. Yohendrick Pinango scored twice with a home run and an RBI double, and Josh Rivera had two hits along with a walk.

Ed Howard had a strong performance, going 3-for-4 with a double.

Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans Prospects

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans secured a 5-4 victory over the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. The Pelicans’ strong performance included a late-game surge, with three runs in the top of the ninth. Pitcher Kenten Egbert delivered a solid five-inning performance, and Angel Hernandez secured the win with a strong four-inning showing.

Notable offensive contributions came from center fielder Alfonsin Rosario, who hit his eighth home run, and right fielder Jacob Wetzel, who added a solo shot.
