2024 Travelers Championship Purse – The 2024 Travelers Championship is the final Signature Event of the season. It is one of five no-cut Signature Events, and the winner will receive 18% of the purse.

The 2024 Travelers Championship takes us to the final Pete Dye course of the season. This par-70 layout, stretching to 6,835 yards from the tips, is the third-shortest course on Tour this season. In the past, we’ve witnessed a diverse range of skill sets triumph in Cromwell, Connecticut, a testament to Pete Dye’s design philosophy. The event is a no-cut, adding to the excitement. We’re left with a competitive 71-man field after Rory McIlroy’s Monday withdrawal.
As the golfers step onto the TPC River Highlands this week, they will be greeted by a course that has undergone significant changes. These ‘competitive enhancements’ were a direct response to last year’s low scores and Rory McIlroy’s remarks about the outdated layout due to technology. While the course’s length remains unchanged, six holes have been dramatically altered, promising a fresh and exciting challenge for the players.
This week’s agronomy features 4-plus inch Bluegrass/Fescue rough and a Bentgrass/Poa annua mixture on the greens and fairways. True to Pete Dye’s style, the course, especially on the back nine, entices players to take shots over these water hazards. The penal rough serves as the course’s primary defense, forcing players who stray off the fairway to lay up instead of going for the green with their approach shot.
TPC River Highlands has one of the lowest average driving distances on the Tour, measuring only 284 yards. The fairways are the 10th most narrow, with many holes being tree-lined doglegs. Because of this, many players choose to use less-than-driver clubs from the tee. Another reason for this strategy is the thick rough, which has grown to 4+ inches long for this week’s competition.
The pin positions on the greens are placed in challenging locations to prevent an easy birdie-fest. A Pete Dye course doesn’t give away birdies easily. Many green complexes are angled away from the hole’s direction, making it more challenging. The green surfaces combine “northeastern” Poa annua and bentgrass, which is not the bumpy, inconsistent “west coast” Poa often complained about out west.
