As expected, the Dodgers are World Series Favorites
The Los Angeles Dodgers remain the overwhelming World Series odds favorite according to FanDuel Sportsbook and are currently boasting odds of +300 to raise the World Series trophy at season’s end. They’ve maintained their spot as the favorite by beginning the 2024 season 23-13 while jumping out to a 5.5-game lead in the NL West division.
Offensive star power is one of the main reasons this particular version of the Dodgers is so heavily favored. Their lineup including Shohei Ohtani and fellow former MVPs Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts has been on full display this year. They lead the MLB in team batting average, runs, OPS, and total hits. This firepower is backed by a pitching staff that currently ranks 5th in WHIP, and 7th in runs allowed per game.
LA is one of the older teams in baseball so injuries will always be a concern, making these odds, this early in the year pretty scary. That said, the Dodgers front office has routinely shown their commitment to winning at the trade deadline and they’ll undoubtedly be active when that comes around.
The O’s are Back
The Baltimore Orioles made their first playoff appearance since 2016 after winning their first division title since 2014 last season and it looks like they’re as good, if not better in 2024. Boasting one of baseball’s youngest and most talented rosters, the O’s are off to a hot 23-11 start (1st, AL East) this year. This is supported by the league’s 2nd highest-scoring offense and a pitching staff holding opponents to the 5th lowest runs per game at 3.68.
Baltimore will face tough competition in the AL for supremacy, but their addition of Corbin Burnes gives them an ace for must-win situations. Their offense isn’t reliant on one hitter producing as evidenced by a lineup featuring six players hitting above .270 and all but one starter currently with 5 or more home runs. At +1100, the O’s are a much better bet at this point in the season than their AL East opponent New York who is +650 but plays a much older and injury-laden lineup and pitching staff.
Remember to Compare Odds
As always, make sure to compare odds and lines from as many sportsbooks as possible before placing your bets. This holds especially true for future bets, like the World Series as there might be some major differences in odds. For example, the Dodgers might be +280 at one sportsbook and +300 like we see here at FanDuel Sportsbook. In this case, you’re going to choose +300 to wager on because it presents a larger potential profit on the same amount bet. This is one of the many great things about online sports betting. You don’t have to bet on one sportsbook. You’re able to shop around for lines, odds, promo codes, and more.
