Colton Cowser is the Frontrunner
The conversation for American League Rookie of the Year has to start in Baltimore, where they’re producing them like a well-oiled machine these days. Last year, the O’s took the award home when Gunnar Henderson won the honors. Can Colton Cowser make it back-to-back years?
Cowser is having a stellar season for Baltimore, slashing .276/.354/.575 through 32 games. He has six home runs and 19 RBI to go along with a 164 wRC+ and 1.4 fWAR through his first 99 plate appearances. However, Cowser’s .375 BABIP is pretty high, and he’s striking out at a 34 percent rate. If his batting average is going to come down when the BABIP luck changes and he’s going to strike out at that rate, he’ll need a surge in the power department to remain the front-runner for this year’s AL Rookie of the Year Award.
Could Junior Camerino Be a Sleeper?
On FanDuel Sportsbook, Junor Camerino is +1300 odds. That means a $100 bet on him to win the American League Rookie of the Year would win $1300. We believe there is some value there, and here’s why.
While Cowser is the frontrunner now, Tampa Bay’s Junior Camerino is making a case to be a value play for bettors looking to lay down some money on the award. Camerino, 20, could make his way back to the big league club this season. He’s hitting .324 with six home runs and 16 RBI in Triple-A after playing seven games with the Rays down the stretch last season in September. Camerino has a 162 wRC+ in Triple-A, and if he makes his way to the majors sometime this month, he could get enough games under his belt this season to be a dark horse candidate for the award.

Shōta Imanaga is the Frontrunner
If you thought Zack Wheeler’s start to the season was impressive, you haven’t been paying attention to Imanaga’s sizzling start. Imanaga has a 0.78 ERA in six starts for the Cubs this year and a 2.23 FIP. Imanaga has struck out 35 hitters (9.09 K/9) and has only walked four. Yes, four. He’s also only allowed three earned runs all season and has been undoubtedly the best pitcher on the Cubs.
Could Pirates Starter Jared Jones Be a Sleeper?
Jared Jones has been one of the most entertaining pitchers to watch this season. Jones has a 2.63 ERA and is striking out hitters at a 34 percent clip through his first seven starts for the Pirates.
