The first season with Jordan Love under center had its speedbumps early. But the Green Bay Packers and their young roster proved to be a team on the rise to close out the 2023 season. Now they turn their attention to taking the next step in their renewed quest to regain control of the NFC North and an NFC Championship. They’ve made some key additions in free agency, but the NFL Draft will play a big role in determining their level of success in 2024. Let’s examine Green Bay’s top priorities for the upcoming NFL Draft.
Green Bay Packers Positions to Address in the NFL Draft
The Packers already had the youngest roster in the NFL which allowed them to focus on veteran signings in free agency. They made a switch at running back, bringing in Josh Jacobs to replace Aaron Jones, and safety Xavier McKinney to stabilize the DB room. Green Bay now turns its attention toward the NFL Draft where the front seven and depth will likely be their biggest priorities.
Offensive Line Depth
While the Packers’ starting offensive line was strong in 2023, they lost starting right guard Jon Runyan, and rotation tackle Yosh Nijman in free agency. Injuries are a constant threat on the offensive line so adding competition and depth at every spot here is crucial.
Safety
Green Bay hasn’t invested heavily in the safety position since drafting Darnell Savage in 2019 but that has clearly changed ahead of the 2024 season. After the departures of Savage and fellow safeties Jonathan Owens and Johnathan Ford in free agency, the Packers signed Xavier McKinney from the Giants but still need to replenish the position’s depth behind him. Look for Green Bay to try and fill this need on day two.

Linebacker
Veteran departures have left a hole at inside linebacker for Green Bay. De’Vondre Campbell has left in free agency, leaving Quay Walker without a running mate inside. The Packers are more than loaded with outside, edge-type backers so finding a replacement for Campbell and depth up the middle is key.
Interior Defensive Line
Kenny Clark remains a force, but he’s on the last year of his contract and the Packers lack consistent pressure up the middle outside of him. Drafting a disruptive, penetrating defensive tackle that can potentially replace Clark in the future and bolster their run defense could also free up edge rushers like Rashan Gary.
Running Back
The Aaron Jones era in Green Bay has come to an end. In response, the Packers added their new bell-cow back Josh Jacobs from Las Vegas, and A.J. Dillon was re-signed as well. Beyond them, however, is an empty RB room that needs refilling. Both Jacobs and Dillon have also dealt with their fair share of injuries in the past, making adding at least one more runner very important.
