The Kansas City Chiefs, despite their perennial playoff presence and back-to-back Super Bowl wins, have some key areas to address in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. While Patrick Mahomes remains a force, a strong supporting cast is vital for sustained success. Here’s a look at the top 5 needs the Chiefs should target in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Kansas City Chiefs Positions to Address in the NFL Draft
The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off a second consecutive Super Bowl win might seem like a team with few weaknesses. However, with other AFC West teams improving and the entire NFL evolving, the 2024 NFL Draft presents valuable opportunities for General Manager Brett Veach to solidify their championship window. Here are the top 5 needs the Chiefs should address.
Offensive Tackle
Protecting Patrick Mahomes is priority number one in Kansas City. Juwaan Taylor has played exceptionally well on the right side, but the Chiefs are once again looking for a blind-side tackle. This is a spot the Chiefs must address during the draft with most of the top options in free agency no longer available.
Wide Receiver
Kansas City found a potential star in Rashee Rice during last season’s draft and just added Hollywood Brown on a 1-year deal in free agency. It’s not all celebratory for the WR corps with Rice facing legal issues, and the departures of MVS and Mecole Hardman depleting depth in the room. Mahomes proved he can win with unproven talent outside but adding more weapons for the game’s top QB is never a bad idea.

Defensive Line depth
The return of Chris Jones and the re-signing of Derrick Nnadi gave the defensive line a boost heading into 2024. Unfortunately, the depth chart on the interior is severely lacking and Jones is the only guy that can create consistent pressure up the middle. The AFC is loaded with dangerous quarterbacks and passing attacks, so pressure up the middle is crucial. Look for KC to target this spot early in the NFL Draft.
Running Back Depth
Isaiah Pacheco has been fantastic for the Chiefs over his first two seasons. He was even featured in the passing game last year where he wound up with 44 receptions for almost 250 yards. However, Pacheco missed three regular-season games due to injury, and Kansas City has yet to re-sign 3rd down back Jerrick McKinnon. CEH returned on a 1-year deal but beyond him the running back room is empty. Depth is needed.
Quarterback
Patrick Mahomes still has plenty of years left in that cannon of an arm and the team signed Carson Wentz to be his backup. That said, taking a flier on a late-round quarterback who could potentially emerge as Mahomes’ backup in the future would be smart. This would not only allow the youngster to learn under Mahomes but save salary for the upcoming years.
Kansas City Chiefs Offseason Additions
The Kansas City Chiefs’ primary focus this offseason was bringing back their in-house free agents and adding depth where needed. Their biggest move is unquestionably the re-signing of DT Chris Jones with the addition of Marquise ‘Hollywood” Brown making headlines as well. See their top offseason additions below.
