The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and we’re putting together a Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-Round Mock Draft today.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-Round Mock Draft
Round 1, Pick 26: C Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson can step in and replace the retired Ryan Jensen immediately, giving them a day-one starter in the middle of their offensive line with their first pick.
Powers-Johnson is a former Oregon standout with immense power at the center position. He has smooth footwork, a balanced base, a strong punch, excellent upper-body torque, and is very aware. He blocks two guys at once, sets a heavy anchor, and rarely gets pushed back. In the run game, he’s tough, physical, and regularly knocks opponents back. However, he sometimes lunges, leans, pops up too upright, and misses his target. He’s a one-year starter with relatively few games played.
Round 2, Pick 57: HB Jonathon Brooks, Texas
Jonathan Brooks emerged as a key player for Texas during the 2023 season, transitioning from a committee role to becoming the lead back. He showcased versatility as a three-down back, excelling in both zone and power schemes. Brooks demonstrates agility and vision on run plays, making decisive cuts and accelerating into the second level. While he’s adequate in pass protection, there are concerns about his sustainability due to his preference for physical running. Nonetheless, Brooks has the potential to make a significant impact in the NFL, provided he adjusts his playing style to mitigate injury risks.
Round 3, Pick 89: G Christian Mahogany, Boston College
Christian Mahogany is a dominant interior lineman known for his size, power, and technique. In the run game, he excels at exploding off the line, establishing leverage, and driving defenders away with his strength. Mahogany is also effective in pass protection, showcasing quick footwork, strong awareness, and the ability to handle various pass rush techniques. While he occasionally struggles with agility and penalties, he has shown improvement and versatility suitable for any scheme. Despite overcoming a torn ACL in 2022, Mahogany has the potential to become a top-tier starter at the next level.
Round 4, Pick 125: EDGE Mohamed Kamara, Colorado State
Mohamed Kamara, a standout at Colorado State, boasts an impressive career with 32 sacks, with his peak in 2023 recording 14 sacks. He exhibits a quick first step off the ball, consistently pressuring offensive tackles with his edge rush. Kamara employs various pass-rush moves like double-hand swipes and bull rushes, showcasing maximum effort and counters when needed. In the run game, he displays edge-setting ability and powerful punches. However, Kamara tends to be over-aggressive, leading to balance issues and missed tackles. While he shows potential, he needs to improve his stack technique and fluidity in pass rush transitions. Overall, Kamara is viewed as a rotational pass-rusher with starter potential, given his athleticism and hand usage.
Round 6, Pick 220: CB A.J. Woods, Pittsburgh
A fifth-year cornerback with top-tier athleticism and refined skills. Primarily lines up outside but has slot experience. Strong testing results are expected at pro day. Excels in press-man coverage, maintaining tight coverage with quick hips and controlled hand use. Comfortable in cover two but struggles with spatial awareness against multiple receivers. Solid ball production history but dipped in 2023. Adequate tackler with blitzing potential. Shows versatility as a special teams gunner and kick returner.
Round 7, Pick 246: TE Tanner McLachlan, Arizona
Despite lacking the ideal size and strength for a traditional tight end role, he showcases a relentless spirit and determination in his play. While his blocking ability may raise concerns, he compensates with exceptional effort and a willingness to execute blocks. Despite average speed and shorter arms, McLachlan displays impressive ball skills, consistently making plays outside his frame and generating yards after the catch. Although he may not tick all the boxes, his tenacious mentality suggests the potential for success at the professional level.
