Sounds Like the Brewers Won’t Be Leaving Milwaukee, If That Were Ever In Doubt

Like I said from the jump, the public pressure campaigns to get additional funding approved for American Family Field was never going to end in the Brewers actually moving out of Milwaukee. It’s just the dance you have to do, it seems, to get public funding (in the Brewers’ case, for a publicly-owned stadium). This is not an Oakland A’s situation.

So after months of public sparring, including getting the MLB Commissioner involved, it sounds like a deal has been struck to update American Family Field and keep the Brewers in Milwaukee:

You get the sense from the AP report that, while there are still steps needed to finalize things, this is a deal that will eventually get done. Most of the money will come from the state of Wisconsin, with a little come from each of the city of Milwaukee, the county, and the Brewers, themselves.

In exchange for all but $100 million being publicly-funded, the Brewers would agree to extend their lease through 2050.
