Would You Trade Up to Draft Marvin Harrison Jr.? And Other Bears Bullets

NFL draft bears 4. Arizona Cardinals – Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State
NFL draft bears 4. Arizona Cardinals – Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

Saturday’s forecast in Chicago has temperatures getting into the low 70s. So, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try to breeze through this set of Bears Bullets so I can get some fresh air.

  • Adam Rank got the wheels in my head turning this morning:
  • On the one hand, I think I’d pursue a trade-up to get Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fifth pick. And because the Bears and Chargers already cut a deal (thanks for Keenan Allen, btw!) earlier this offseason, you’d like to think that the two sides are comfortable talking shop. The idea of teaming presumptive first overall pick quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is alluring for both immediate and long-term purposes. But on the other hand, I’m so comfortable with what players could be available for Chicago at No. 9 that I don’t feel a *NEED* to move up. I don’t envy General Manager Ryan Poles right now.
  • For what it’s worth: Marcus Mosher’s latest mock draft at The 33rd Team would have the Bears trading pick No. 9 and a 2025 first-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers to get pick No. 5 (to take Marvin Harrison Jr.) and No. 110 (which would be hilarious because that’s the Bears own pick that went to LA in the Keenan Allen deal). Would you do this trade?
  • I feel as if this tweet does a good job capturing why I’m not banging the table to trade up to make a MHJ trade:
  • In search of a wide receiver? Rome Odunze and Malik Nabers could still be on the board depending on how the chips fall after the top quarterbacks get chosen. Want an edge defender to play opposite of Montez Sweat? Jared Verse, Dallas Turner, and Laiatu Latu all have profiles of that scream Matt Eberflus’ type. Same with Byron Murphy and Johnny Newton. If I think of Brock Bowers as a super-utility offensive weapon instead of just a tight end, then I could be talked into taking him. I don’t expect Joe Alt to be available at No. 9, but I wouldn’t hate it if he was the Bears pick.
  • Old friend alert: The New Orleans Saints announced the signing of wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who spent his last two seasons with the Bears. St. Brown, a Packers sixth-round pick in 2018, caught 26 passes in 23 games over two seasons in Chicago. Moving to New Orleans reunites him with Andrew Janocko, the former Bears QBs Coach who is now an assistant with the Saints. ESB was a good blocker while in Chicago and is a good end of the depth chart receiver option. When it comes to WR5 types, you could do worse!
  • Leave it to the Chicago Bears social media team to find the one thing harder to find than a franchise quarterback:
  • To be together for 57 years while enduring Chicago Bears football is impressive. Much respect.
  • A fun find from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, who points out that seven of the nine players who were tagged earlier in the spring have signed long-term extensions with their teams. Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson headlines the list for us (and for obvious reasons). Only Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins are the only ones who haven’t gotten extensions from their teams after getting Franchise Tag status. The deadline for teams to reach a deal with tagged players is July 15.
  • Hear me out — what about Bill Belichick as the next Chicago White Sox manager?
  • Look, I don’t think Bill Belichick would want to coach the White Sox. But maybe there is something to pull from him in terms of team building. Picking the brains of GOATs never hurt anyone.
