Caleb Williams Has High Hopes For the Bears: “We’re Gonna Be Pretty Damn Good”

‘Tis the season for endless optimism.

And when it is coming from QB1, you know I’m going to re-share it.

“There’s a light at the end of that tunnel,” said Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “Right now we’re working with our head down and we’re building, (but) just having that moment with myself — I do it every day — to sit there and say, ‘We’re gonna be pretty damn good.’ So I’ve just gotta keep going, keep working, and we’re all excited. It’s really important to have that mindset, but also have the mindset of let’s keep going, let’s keep working, let’s get after it.”

I love that Caleb Williams is bringing this type of energy from the get-go. I believe in the power of manifestation. And maybe it’ll work for the Bears in this instance. Additionally, I love the verbiage that he is using with the “light at the end of the tunnel” analogy. Bears fans (and players who have been in town long enough) have been through it with this franchise. There have been more dark times than moments of daylights with this franchise lately — which is among the reasons they were in a position to draft Caleb Williams in the first place.

Even still … I continue to circle back to how merely hearing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel makes me feel good.

Take a minute to stop and think about what someone like Patrick Scales has experienced since joining the Bears in 2015:

  • Three head coaches
  • Two general managers
  • Five offensive play-callers
  • Thirteen different starting quarterbacks
  • Five 10+ loss seasons
  • 1 year with a winning record
  • 2 postseason appearances
  • 0 playoff wins
  • It’s been bleak around these parts. But the arrival of draft picks like Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze, trade additions such as DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, and the continued improvement of home-grown draft picks including Cole Kmet and Jaylon Johnson, there are so many legitimate reasons to feel as if the arrow is pointing up for Chicago’s football team. And while I’m sure there were reasons for optimism in the past, it feels more real this time.

What’s Up With Caleb Williams and His Un-signed Rookie Contract?

Then again, it is easy to feel that way now. It is easy to get the warm-and-fuzzies thinking about the Bears playing triumphantly deep into the winter when you see sizzle reels in May and June. But soon, the time will come for the Bears to go to work. There will be some bumpy times. With that in mind, I hope you hold onto some of these good vibes and tap into them when times eventually get tough.
