I’ve been sailing on the S.S. “Let DeMar Go,” but I’d be lying if I said we hadn’t hit some bumpy waters.
Veteran leadership is important, and DeRozan might as well be one of the best in the business. He’s a great example of reliability, longevity, and knowing your game. Not to mention, DeRozan is superb with the media and a relentlessly hard worker. Honestly, when we look at the breakout campaigns for Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu, it’s hard not to attribute at least some of that to the guidance they’ve received from the six-time All-Star.
Also, let’s not kid ourselves, DeRozan is just a dope dude. He’s easy to root for and appears to live life to the fullest. When I saw him get on stage with Kendrick Lamar last night, I thought to myself … “That guy’s a Bull!”
Now, do I still believe it’s best he ends up elsewhere? Of course. But it’s going to be nearly impossible not to root for him if he’s back in a red jersey next season. The Chicago Bulls front office surely knows that fans will feel that way, too … which stings.
The fact DeRozan joined his fellow Compton native on stage isn’t a shocker, but it’s still crazy when we think about his Toronto ties. Drake is the most famous Raptor fan there is, so you know it stung that much more to see DeRozan dancing around to his diss track. Oof.
DeRozan wasn’t alone at one of the biggest shows of the year. It looks like the veteran leader turned this into a little Bulls team-bonding opportunity, as both Coby White and Dalen Terry were at the show. The three were caught enjoying themselves on the Amazon livestream. I wonder if that enjoyment will continue when they join DeMar for his notoriously brutal offseason workout regimen!
DeRozan also spent this week working out at his old stomping ground. New Trojans head coach Eric Musselman shared a photo of himself with the USC legend.
Let’s keep the DeRozan content coming! Lonzo Ball recently said on an episode of The WAE Show that he doesn’t understand how his Bulls teammate stays in his shoes. No, it’s not because of his expert footwork, but apparently DeRozan barely laces his sneakers. Ball said it’s practically like he “skates” across the floor. For what it’s worth, I’ve definitely heard about this before. I can’t remember exactly where it was discussed, but I think DeRozan himself may have pointed it out as unusual.
NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C. Johnson dropped four names that could be on the Chicago Bulls’ radar next week, including Ron Holland, Devin Carter,Rob Dillingham, and Kyle Filipowski. We’ve talked about those first three players several times here at BN, as they’ve each shown up in some expert mock drafts. Carter has even been speculated as having a potential draft night promise from the Bulls (which … ew). As for Filipowski, he hasn’t been a major talking point among fans and analysts, but he probably should be. The Duke big man checks A LOT of the boxes that the Bulls seem to like in a center. While he isn’t the most athletic, he has really good footwork, solid court vision, and an ability to space the floor. Considering Arturas Karnisovas’ love for Nikola Vucevic, it wouldn’t surprise me if he took a chance on Filipowski. We talked more about him here.

Ricky O’Donnell put out a great story on first-round prospect Ron Holland. I’ll be releasing a Big Board on my favorite options at No. 11, and (Spoiler Alert!) the G-League Ignite standout is going to be at the top. If you want to learn a little more about what makes him different, make sure to give this article a read …
Ron Holland was the ultimate winner until a dreadful year for the G League Ignite flipped the narrative.
I talked to Holland and his high school coaches about his history of winning, taking his lumps in the G League, and what comes next in the NBA Draft:https://t.co/JPcNrMfPvY— Ricky O'Donnell (@SBN_Ricky) June 20, 2024
The Chicago Sky are hoping to snap their four-game losing streak this afternoon. While Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso have continued to show promise, the team as a whole has repeatedly struggled in crunch time. The 4-9 start has made some question which direction they should go with another VERY intriguing draft coming up, but they don’t really have a choice. The Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe reminded us of a Sky pick swap that looms large.
