The Chicago Sky snapped their four-game skid on Thursday afternoon, and Angel Reese is a big reason why.
The rookie continued her strong start to the year with 16 points 18 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. She also shot 7-13 from the field in an overpowering performance against the Dallas Wings. The 83-72 victory marked the Sky’s fifth win of the season, but it also gave Reese another impressive career accomplishment.
Reese is now the first rookie in WNBA history to record seven straight double-doubles. The No. 7 overall pick now has a total of eight double-doubles in her first 13 games.
Here are the numbers from her last seven games:
13 PTS, 10 REB
16 PTS, 11 REB
13 PTS, 13 REB
20 PTS, 10 REB
10 PTS, 14 REB
11 PTS, 13 REB
16 PTS, 18 REB
And here is the historic bucket …
Angel Reese Makes More History
This isn’t Reese’s first time entering the WNBA history books this season. The former LSU national champion recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals in a win over the Washington Mystics earlier this season. No rookie had recorded 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ steals since Candace Parker in 2008. Only three rookies had ever done it before her.
This latest accomplishment, however, puts her in a league of her own. But Reese isn’t thinking about that:
“Man, I’m just happy we finally won, and at home,” Reese said when asked what the accomplishment meant. “It’s super exciting, obviously, for myself. I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league. And excited to win some more.”
