Keep the Vibes Going – Cubs vs Mets Series Preview

Cubs vs Mets — In a testament to just how far the vibes had fallen, things feel pretty good right now. The Cubs have won two games in a row, which led to their first three-game series win in over a month. They brought in a new catcher, Tomas Nido, to replace the respected, but struggling Yan Gomes. And they even recorded back-to-back saves with someone OTHER than Hector Neris.

That plus an off day, plus a Friday 1:20 game at Wrigley Field, plus the Ryne Sandberg Statue going up on Sunday … it just feels a little better right now. So please, Cubs. I’m begging you: Don’t spoil that.

And circling back to that new catcher, Tomas Nido was on the Mets before he joined the Cubs. I suspect he might have a thing or two to share with his new teammates about the pitchers they’ll be facing this weekend. Of course, the Cubs should be pretty familiar with the guy going today … our old friend Jose Quintana!

Quintana had a bit of a renaissance between 2022-2023, with a 3.13 ERA over 241.1 IP and 45 starts, and was even the team’s Opening Day starter this year. However, this season hasn’t been as kind: 4.98 ERA (5.16 FIP) with 12 homers in 14 starts.

The Cubs starters for Saturday and Sunday aren’t confirmed as of publishing this post, but I think Jameson Taillon and Javier Assad could be expected.

We might also expect to see the Cubs keep running wild.

I Absolutely LOVED Justin Steele Firing Up the Troops Today

Ian Happ With a CLUTCH 8th Inning Homer
