I have lunch plans with a friend, so a light breakfast ahead of today’s set of Bears Bullets will have to do.

  • There are 77 days until the Chicago Bears kick off their 2024 regular-season slate of games against the Tennessee Titans. The only Bears player to wear No. 77 was Red Grange. Harold Edward Grange played for the Bears in 1925, and from 1927-1934. Grange had two first-team All-Pro seasons, won two NFL Championships, and had two of the all-time great nicknames ever handed to a player — The Galloping Ghost and The Wheaton Iceman. Why don’t we give out cool nicknames like this anymore?
  • Here are five other important countdowns of note on the Bears upcoming calendar that I am keeping tabs on:
    1. 33 days until the first public practice of training camp (July 26)
    2. 39 days until the Bears-Texans Hall of Fame Game (August 1)
    3. 41 days until Devin Hester, Steve “Mongo” McMichael, and Julius Peppers are enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (August 3)
    4. 48 days until Preseason Week 1 around the NFL (August 10)
    5. 53 days until the Bears and Bengals link up for joint practices (August 15)

  • NFC North Roster Bubble Watch: ESPN’s Kevin Seifert writes about safety Lewis Cine as a player who could be on the outside looking in when the dust settles and teams spit out their season-opening 53-player rosters. Cine, a first-round pick (32nd overall) in 2022, finds himself behind both starters (Harrison Smith, Camryn Bynum) and a pair of bench bodies (Theo Jackson, Jay Ward) on the Vikings depth chart. The Bears re-worked their safeties room this offseason with the additions of Kevin Byard and Jonathan Owens. So it’s not like I’m looking too hard for extra depth right now. But it is never a bad time to keep tabs on what is happening elsewhere in the division.
  • I hope you guys drop some good memes in Teven Jenkins’ replies:
  • Be honest with me: How much UFL did you watch this year? I’ll be honest with you: Yours truly didn’t check in with the UFL this year. Save for some highlights that made their way on social media and some other occasions, it just wasn’t something that drew me in this spring. But clearly, *SOMEONE* was watching because UFL executives are apparently feeling good about the viewership numbers. Perhaps next year I’ll dip my toes in those waters. (Awful Announcing)
  • I missed it this week when the New England Patriots and running back Rhamondre Stevenson came to an agreement on an extension. Stevenson is getting a four-year deal worth $36 million that includes $17 million in guarantees, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Stevenson extension will keep him around beyond the expiration date of his rookie deal. And because I always look at transactions through Bears-tinted shades, the deal is on par with what D’Andre Swift got from the Bears in terms of AAV ($8M per year for Swift) and guarantees ($15.3M). It’s just nice to see running backs who are good and productive get paid while they’re still valuable.
  • I love seeing star players give back to their alma mater. This is very cool to see from Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby:
