Another loss to the Giants, and the Cubs are now on the verge of a four-game sweep.
The Cubs found another way to lose a tight game. Baserunning was the hero of defeat this time around, with the Cubs making three outs on the bases. The one to end the 8th inning – a would-be steal of third base by Ian Happ with two outs and the Cubs down by one that was sniffed out by the pitcher – just flattened everything.
The Giants scored in two innings tonight, both of them immediately after the Cubs had scored (initially to take an early lead, and then later to tie the game). It’s been another one of those themes this year, and it’s so dang demoralizing.
Not a great day for an Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game, as nobody had a particularly great one, though Christopher Morel did reach base four times … but was thrown out trying to stretch a double on one of them, and picked off on another one. So it’s almost like he actually only reached base twice.
