Enhanced Box Score: Brewers 4, Cubs 2 – June 28, 2024

Back on the losing bus after a one-game blip in San Francisco.

Jameson Taillon was a backhanded snag of a grounder away from maybe throwing six or seven scoreless, borderline dominant innings. But the Brewers loaded the bases in the fourth with the help of that bouncer he couldn’t snag, and Jackson Chourio hit a grand slam. What could’ve been a fantastic outing became a pretty mediocre one in a single swing. (Technically a met-the-minimum quality start. I actually think he pitched a little better than that, but it’s still four runs allowed at the end of the day.)

That grand slam was all the Brewers got, and all they’d need.

Offensively, I mean, do I even need to say it? The Cubs had opportunities and couldn’t capitalize. Not a TON of EASY opportunities tonight like in some games, though. More than the Brewers, though. And they didn’t take ’em.

The game also featured the obligatory TOOTBLAN (a particularly bad one, with Cody Bellinger seemingly just forgetting how many outs there were, and getting doubled off of first base).

Seiya Suzuki stayed hot in June, adding another homer (thus, the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game), and Dansby Swanson had a run-scoring hit for the other Cubs tally.

Welcome to the new guy …

Full box score.
