As soon as the Bears started to roll out their list of the franchise’s 100 best players as part of the franchise’s celebration of its centennial season, you just knew Walter Payton was going to be No. 1.
His running style was unique, skillset was unrivaled, and his drive was unmatched. Payton’s numbers (16,726 rushing yards, 21,264 scrimmage yards, 125 rushing + receiving touchdowns, and 8 passing touchdowns) speak for themselves. But it’s the highlights that will leave you breathless.
The greatest player in league history being named the Bears’ all-time greatest player was a no-brainer. Well done with No. 1.
As for the rest of the list, well, I suppose this is where the fun begins. The debates that follow shoaled be good.
