Sure, I could do a lengthy notes post on the first open practice of the Chicago Bears’ training camp season. Or I could (once again) gush about how the Justin Fields-D.J. Moore connection is already flourishing.
I think you already know where I’m going with this. And just to confirm, yes, that’s exactly where I’m going. How can I not after seeing this:
The Justin Fields-D.J. Moore connection is going to be a problem for opposing defenses. Last year, all teams had to do was gang up on the run game and try and contain Fields. And yet, Fields ran for 1,000+ yards and showed tremendous in-season growth while learning Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy’s system. The ground game was arguably football’s most explosive attack. And while the passing attack was in need of serious work, we still saw Fields build a bond with Cole Kmet (which is one reason why the Bears gave the tight end an extension). Now, Fields has a legitimate top receiver target to throw to on an every-down basis. I fully expect Fields to throw Moore’s way early and often in 2023.
This duo has the potential to be special. D.J. Moore has already gone on record stating his goal to elevate Justin Fields and the rest of the Chicago Bears offense. Two months into his Bears career, Moore was already linking up for big plays with Fields. And last month, we learned that Fields and Moore were becoming football besties. It is a beautiful sight to see. As are quotes like this from folks who are watching practice.
Only 45 days until the Bears play a game of consequence. But what a doozy that’ll be with the Packers providing the competition. Chicago hasn’t had a QB-WR duo with this much potential since the front office brought in Brandon Marshall to catch passes from Jay Cutler. Hopefully, the Justin Fields-D.J. Moore tandem has a better ending than what the Cutler-Marshall squad had.
