The Chicago Bears getting off to a sluggish start in primetime against the Los Angeles Chargers wasn’t in my pre-game script. But folks are known to say something about how it’s not about how you start, but how you finish. And maybe the Bears are just lining up a Hollywood story of a comeback.
If that is how the cookie crumbles, then we’ll look back at this Darrynton Evans touchdown as the jumping-off point:
Not only was that Darrynton Evans first Bears touchdown, it was also his first-ever rushing touchdown. This marks Evans’s second career score, and first since his rookie year in 2020. He might get the ball, but Darnell Wright deserves a meal for leading the way.
That is the best offensive drive the Bears have put together all night. There was a mix of passes and runs. Even some trickery from Luke Getsy’s playbook. But there were also missed opportunities and head-scratching moments. It’s been that kind of night already for these Bears.
A 17-7 deficit looks more manageable than a 17-0 one. So stay tuned.
