The Chicago Bears defense has turned it around after a slow start. And today, it has shown up in the form of a pair of early turnovers.
Rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson came away with his first-ever interception as a pro. And on the next possession, linebacker T.J. Edwards snagged his first pick as a member of the Bears. You’ll want to watch and enjoy these highlights:
It was nice seeing those guys get interceptions. Stevenson has had an up-and-down season as a rookie, which is to be expected out of a first-year cornerback. But his aggressive play has been refreshing to watch. As for Edwards, he has been a tackling machine in Year 1 with Chicago. Watching him thrive as a pass defender is a wonderful development.
Unfortunately, the Bears were unable to turn either of those turnovers into points. That is terribly frustrating and disappointing. Beating the NFC North-leading Lions was going to be tough enough. But not capitalizing on Jared Goff turnovers makes this a much more challenging task.
Despite all that, the Bears were holding a 7-0 lead. But gave it up as the Lions scored after getting a turnover on a short field when Tyler Scott fumbled after a reception. This team was looking like it was on thin ice. And now we have a ballgame on our hands in Detroit. It’s 7-7 in the second quarter.
