WHEW: Justin Fields Explains Why He Unfollowed the Bears on IG

Remember when we said that it would be silly to be concerned over Justin Fields’ social media usage? On the latest episode of the St. Brown Bros podcast Fields confirms that there’s nothing to be concerned about when it comes to his Instagram follows.

“I’m glad we’re talking about it,” Fields remarked when asked why he recently unfollowed the Bears official Instagram account. “Why do people take social media so seriously? I still mess with the Bears … I’m just trying to take a little break; I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL, bro!”

There you have it. Justin Fields wants to take a vacation and not have football — and the constant debate surrounding his future — crammed down his throat whenever he logs onto his social media account.

After my kid’s baseball practice on Monday night, there was a lot of talk about Justin Fields on social media. It started when Tom Fornelli, a local CBS Sports reporter, mentioned that Justin Fields was not following the Chicago Bears on Instagram.

It’s like back in high school when you would be on the rocks in your teenage romance and displace your one time crush from your MySpace “Top 8.”

‘Oh, my! Did you see that Justin took the Bears out of his Top 8! He’s definitely out of here!.’

Justin Fields

Thankfully we can put the Justin Fields “Unfollow-Gate” debate behind us …

The whole thing was blown so far out of proportion and was silly to begin with. But fear not, we’re reaching the end of the ride in the coming weeks here. The NFL Draft is still two months away, but don’t expect the Bears to let this quarterback debate linger for too much longer.

The Bears will have a plan for the QB position after the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. SI’s Albert Breer confirmed as much recently:

“Such is the case with the Bears and Justin Fields—with the team having gotten a little insight into what his trade value may be. Chicago staffers got inquiries from other teams on Fields in Mobile. And while the Bears haven’t shopped Fields, those conversations did allow the team to start to gauge the 2021 first-rounder’s worth out there on the market.

“The Bears are meeting over the next couple weeks to finalize plans at quarterback, with the expectation that they’ll have the plan in place in Indianapolis next week.”
