Stadium Poll, DJ Visits the UK, Borom’s Future, and Other Bears Bullets

The Chicago Cubs look to be running into a similar problem to what the Chicago Bears were dealing with at the end of the Ryan Pace era. A team that was built with hopes of winning isn’t doing it. And much like the Bears, the Cubs continue to consistently find painful ways to lose. So much so that it is blurring the lines of pain and numbness.

Sorry to start Bears Bullets on a sour note. But I’ve seen this film before, and I didn’t like the ending.

  • There are only 75 days until the Chicago Bears kick off the regular season in a Week 1 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. No one rocked the No. 75 like Kyle Long, who played for the Bears from 2013-19. Long was a Pro Bowl lineman in each of his first three seasons after being a first-round pick in 2013. That is impressive. Also impressive: That he did it while playing two different positions. Long was a superb right guard and an excellent right tackle. There is no doubt in my mind that Long could’ve played any offensive line position at a high level (and for a long time) had it not been for injuries. What a bummer.
  • I wonder what the Bears will do with Larry Borom, who currently wears No. 75. Borom is a nice reserve offensive lineman who has taken snaps at both guard spots and both tackle positions. No, he hasn’t done enough to stick to one position or snag a starting job. But the ability to plug-and-play at four different spots on the line is tremendously valuable. However, a look at ESPN’s depth chart shows that Borom isn’t considered a top backup at any of the positions he has experience at going into this season. This doesn’t mean things can’t change between now and Week 1. But it looks to me that he has an uphill climb.

  • A very random thought: Last summer, the Bears sent a Day 3 pick to the Miami Dolphins in a trade to acquire reserve offensive lineman Dan Feeney (and his glorious mullet). With that in mind, I wonder if General Manager Ryan Poles is positioning himself to be on the other side of trade conversations. Perhaps with a team that is searching for an offensive lineman with positional flexibility. This might be something work keeping an eye on this summer.
  • There is still time to vote in this very important poll:
  • ICYMI: It sounds like a Chicago Bears move to the suburbs is still very much on the table. There was always a path for Arlington Heights to slide its way back into the picture. I’ll be curious to see how this pivot looks. Much more to come later.
  • Whether it is at Arlington Park, along the Chicago lakefront downtown, or in a municipality to be named later, one thing that is certain about the Bears next stadium is that it will be a dome. And with good reason, too: “It definitely needs to be a dome-covered stadium,” Warren said in the summer of 2023. “Because that would afford us the opportunity for 365-days-a-year activation.” Enough said.
  • I love it when I see Bears players give back to the community:
  • DJ Moore going across the pond to link up with youths in the UK is pretty neat. He’ll be making a return trip to London in October when the Bears play the Jaguars. It still irks me that the Bears are playing a “home” game in London against a team from Jacksonville which essentially has a UK residency. Go figure.
  • Jury deliberations in the class-action lawsuit filed by NFL “Sunday Ticket” subscribers is set to begin deliberations on Wednesday. (ESPN)
  • Does it sound like I’m whining when I complain about the limited number of Bears open practices? Yes. Do I care? Not one bit. Especially when the New England Patriots are having 13 open practices, including the joint session with the Philadelphia Eagles.
