We are just a few weeks from the MLB All-Star game and the top stars have been separating themselves in the American League. Who is the favorite for MVP? Who could make a sneaky run at the award? Let’s look at the AL MVP race.
AL MVP Odds
It looks like it’s Aaron Judge’s award to lose. He has been on top of the odds basically all season long and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Check out the odds for the AL MVP race.

Judge Remains at the Top
I mean, it’s just unfair how good this guy has been. Judge is hitting .316 with an OPS of 1.144. He has a league-leading 31 homers and is on pace for a season of 58 homers and 154 RBI. He’s second in the AL in average, 1st in RBI, 1st in total bases, 2nd in OBP, 1st in SLG, 1st in OPS, and 2nd in WAR.
It will be hard to keep him from taking the AL MVP award with ease as long as he stays healthy. That has always been the question with Judge. When he is healthy, he is one of the best hitters in the game and the most dangerous power hitter by far.
Gunnar Henderson Climbing the Ranks
Is there anyone else who can make some noise and beat Judge for the AL MVP? Gunnar Henderson is having a great season for the Orioles hitting .288 with 26 homers and 58 RBI. His OPS is .989 and he leads the American League in WAR.
While being overshadowed by Judge, Henderson is on pace for a massive season of 50 HR, 112 RBI, 33 doubles, 181 hits, and 141 runs. It looks like it will be a back-and-forth battle between the Orioles and Yankees for the AL East. We could see some exciting matchups between Judge and Henderson down the stretch of the season.
And Henderson is just 23 years old.
Others: Soto, Ramirez, and Witt Jr. Having Great Years
There are several other players who are having great years and, usually, they would be in the running but Judge has been so good it has made these players look average.
Bobby Witt Jr. is hitting .312 with 12 homers and 22 stolen bases. He’s 4th in the AL in WAR and leads the league with 107 hits. He’s on pace for 200+ hits, 40+ doubles, and 20+ homers. He’s a young superstar in the making and should find himself in the MVP race for years to come.
Many fans have been surprised by the success of the Cleveland Guardians and they have been getting great value at the plate from Jose Ramirez. He’s 3rd in the AL with 23 homers and has driven in 76 runs on the year. He’s projected to hit 45 homers and have 150 RBI which would be an insane season. The only problem is Judge is projected higher in both of those categories.
What about Judge’s teammate Juan Soto? He’s hitting .303 with 20 homers and a league-leading OBP of .437. His OPS is 1.005 to make up the best 1-2 punch in the league. Soto is tracking for a season of 38 homers, 115 RBI, and 134 walks. That’s a great year. Too bad his teammate is going to be getting most of the buzz in 2024.
