On Friday morning we got really exciting news from the Chicago Blackhawks. Forward Nick Foligno has agreed to a two-year extension that will keep him in town to, as he says, see the rebuild through to the next generation.
The deal is for two years with a $4.5 million cap hit.
Foligno, 36, has scored eight goals with nine assists in 39 games with the Blackhawks this season. He is currently out with a fractured finger, but has been the de facto captain of the team this season as the Blackhawks take the next step in their rebuilding progress.
From the team’s release:
“The impact Nick has already had on our team in such a short time is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to helping the players around him succeed,” said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. “Hard-working on the ice, the energy he brings every night and his versatility to play in any situation have been tremendous assets. His leadership skills both on and off the ice have been instrumental in what we are building, and we are excited for him continue to push our team forward.”
This is tremendous news for the immediate future of the Blackhawks. Now, let’s get a deal done with Jason Dickinson while we’re in the spending mood…
