Lots of Blackhawks fans wanted them to draft Ivan Demidov at No. 2 overall. Some liked Cayden Lindstrom as well. It sounds like the Blackhawks reeeeeaallly wanted more than one player who went inside the top five overall…
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Blackhawks offered a hefty collection of assets to Columbus in an effort to get the fourth overall pick.
That’s a massive offer from Kyle Davidson, who has been hoarding picks since he took over as the general manager of the Blackhawks. An unprotected first-round pick next year could be back inside the top ten overall. I assume the other pick would have been 18 overall this year, which the Blackhawks used to select Sacha Boisvert (a center who’s close to being Lindstrom’s size).
It’s interesting to hear after the fact that Davidson was willing to make such an enormous offer to get back into the top five.
