Let’s take a quick lap around the NHL and catch up with some more moves and news as free agency and trades continue to take place. We’ll start in the Central Division with the Blues, who made some waves on Tuesday.
Busy Blues
The St. Louis Blues made a series of moves on Tuesday, acquiring Mathieu Joseph and Radek Faksa for nothing. A couple nice depth forwards who will help them. But the Blues still have a lot of work to do to get better. Then the Blues announced a six-year deal with Pavel Buchnevich that has an $8M AAV.
On Tuesday evening, the Blues became the first team to announce an entry-level contract with a 2024 draft pick. St. Louis signed defenseman Adam Jiricek to his ELC on Tuesday. That was quick!
Rangers Dumping Their Captain?
So… the New York Rangers have reportedly been trying to dump their captain. But he doesn’t necessarily want to just go somewhere, and he’s using his no-trade list. Emily Kaplan had a good note on part of the why on Tuesday.
Hurricanes’ Headache
Carolina already saw their former general manager, Don Waddell, leave and take the job in Columbus. Now, it sounds like they might have more jobs to fill — not on the ice.
Carolina has some business to take care of with some important internal free agents, but it sounds like the whole house is imploding with that organization right now. David Pagnotta is reporting they’re looking for an entirely new top of the house. Maybe they’ll get in a bidding war with Edmonton for Stan Bowman?
