Ayo Dosunmu doesn’t have to go far to make a difference. The 23-year-old inked a fresh three-year deal this offseason to remain in his own backyard. And it looks like he’s celebrating by giving some local kids something to strive for.
According to the Chicago Bulls Community page, Ayo Dosunmu has announced “Ayo’s Scholars” at his old grade school. The program will provide all students who crack the honor roll at Beasley Academic Center with free tickets to a future Bulls game.
“I want to impact the community in a positive way [and] give them a great incentive,” Dosunmu said. “Kids who normally get Cs or they’re borderline honor roll, it may give them an extra push to help them make the honor roll, and I think that’s what it’s all about.”
The Bulls shared a video of Dosunmu announcing the initiative at a recent school event, which you can see here:
The program is just the latest work Dosunmu has done for kids in the Chicago community. Earlier this summer, Dosunmu hosted a block party for 120 kids at the Urban Male Network & Beyond The Trail. This marked the 2nd annual Ayo Block Party, which also provided $5,000 to both organizations, per the Bulls Community Page.
“I want to be one of those role models and show that Chicago is more than what the stereotypes say,” Dosunmu said in a video posted on his Instagram. You can take a closer look at that event here:
Props to Dosunmu for making the most of his brief time as a Chicago Bull thus far. Sometimes having a hometown kid on the roster is nothing more than a fun story for the broadcast, but Dosunmu is ensuring it means a whole lot more than that.
