The back-to-back Naismith Award winner is off the board! Purdue star center Zach Edey is officially a member of the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies picked the center with the 9th overall pick in the 1st Round. Edey is coming off a season with the Boilermakers where he led them to the National Championship game and averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds per game in the process.
The 7’4, 300 lb big man is a great fit with the Grizzlies on paper. Memphis struggled last year thanks to a slew of injuries, but they have a very nice young core that could use a true center. Jaren Jackson Jr is a very nice frontcourt player, but he’s at his best when he’s not limited to the paint. Edey gives Memphis a physical force down low with great touch around the rim. He’ll have to improve his quickness defensively, but you can’t teach his size and his offensive skill in the post.
