The Chicago Bulls will bring back the former Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
Adama Sanogo signed with the organization as an undrafted free agent last offseason after helping UConn win the National Championship. The big man inked a two-way contract and appeared in just nine regular season games for the team. He played his most minutes in the second-to-last game of the regular season, scoring 20 points with 22 rebounds in 35 minutes of action.
Sanogo will now return to Chicago on another two-way deal, per Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.
Adama Sanogo Returns
While Sanogo didn’t get many opportunities at the NBA level, he undoubtedly proved that he was worth further evaluation. The undersized center dominated in the G-League, averaging 20.4 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. He also finished with 367 total rebounds, which ranked second in the G-League. His 637 total points scored tied for the 7th-highest mark in the league.
Sanogo may stand just six-foot-nine and lack the raw athleticism some teams may covet, but he’s an incredibly active rebounder with a strong touch around the rim. He’s also a bruising presence down low thanks to his 245-pound frame. There are some big questions about his ability to hold up defensively at the next level, but his strengths may be prominent enough to earn him a longer leash in the NBA.
Even though Sanogo is re-signing on a two-way contract, there is a real chance he could find himself playing more minutes with the Bulls next season. The team has seemingly started a youth movement this offseason, and giving the 22-year-old Adama Sanogo more run would fit right into that equation.
