CUBS LINEUP — Well, there’s no Shohei Ohtani in the Dodgers lineup this afternoon, but it’s still a good day to watch the Cubs game. Why? Because the Cubs’ own Sho (Imanaga) is making his first start in a Cubs uniform! The Cubs signed the short left-hander out of Japan back in January and he’s expected to play a major role on the team over the next several years. It all starts today at Camelback Ranch.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Nico Hoerner, 2B
  2. Dansby Swanson, SS
  3. Chris Morel, 3B
  4. Mike Tauchman, CF
  5. Miguel Amaya, C
  6. Matt Mervis, 1B
  7. Alexander Canario, RF
  8. Owen Caissie, LF
  9. Moises Ballesteros, DH

With a lefty starter on the mound for the Dodgers today, Nico Hoerner is up atop the Cubs lineup. And frankly, I think that pretty much wraps up any questions on Craig Counsell’s intentions for the leadoff job this year: Ian Happ will be the guy against righties, Nico Hoerner against lefties. I dig it.

Following Hoerner is his double-play partner, Dansby Swanson, and Christopher Morel.

Morel got an implicit promotion last night, when Matt Chapman officially signed with the San Francisco Giants. Third base is now entirely Morel’s job to lose (based primarily on his defense), and it’s a very big upside play for the Cubs if it works out. There is risk, because his defense has at times looked very rough (and this is a contact-heavy pitching staff). But again, if he does make progress there, it’ll be a HUGE win for the Cubs. Finding that bat a defensive home transforms Morel’s value and opens up the DH spot for other players internal or otherwise.

Los Angeles Dodgers Lineup:

  1. Miguel Rojas, SS
  2. Freddie Freeman, 1B
  3. Will Smith, C
  4. Max Muncy, 3B
  5. Teoscar Hernandez, RF
  6. Andy Pages, CF
  7. Ryan Ward, DH
  8. Austin Gauthier, 2B
  9. Drew Avans, LF

Pitching Matchup:

Chicago Cubs: Shota Imanaga, LHP

Los Angeles Dodgers: Ryan Yarbrough, LHP
