The Tennessee Smokies were scoreless heading into the 8th inning. Then, Matt Shaw stepped up to the plate.
The Chicago Cubs’ top 3 prospects only needed to see two pitches before he sent a ball deep over the center field wall. The homer marked Shaw’s 5th of the season in Double-A ball.

Shaw has been up and down to start the year, but he may be finally finding his rhythm. The infielder went 2-5 from the plate in the team’s last outing, which included another homer. Shaw came into the day with a .233 batting average and 19 RBI, which puts him behind only Moises Ballesteros for the team lead.
Also, while Shaw may still need to find a more consistent rhythm behind the plate, he does at least lead the Smokies in walks. He’s got a career-high 15.4 percent walk rate and came into the night with 27 walks on the season.
