Did the winning streak just start?
I won’t claim that my presence at tonight’s game – my long-needed return to Wrigley after my back surgery – was what tipped the cosmic scales in favor of the Cubs winning a game, but I WON’T NOT SAY IT.
Justin Steele was quite solid – he likes striking out a lot of Giants batters, eh? – and an early Dansby Swanson two-run shot set the tone a bit. The Cubs had to break through in the 8th inning to take the lead on a series of groundball singles, but it feels like a million years since something like that has worked out in their favor. It was about damn time.
Nice nights for a number of guys, but I’ll hand the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game to Cody Bellinger, who scored a run and also drove in the game-leading run for the Cubs in the 8th. He had two hits and a walk on the night.
Bonus shouts to Tyson Miller and Keegan Thompson for keeping things breezy out of the bullpen. Freaking needed that.
